[10:24:13] <ReggieUK> hi all
[10:46:17] *** Wil5on has quit IRC
[11:38:59] <mozzwald> ReggieUK: hello
[11:47:14] <ReggieUK> hi mozzwald, how's it going?
[11:47:30] <ReggieUK> I got a z2 today in the post
[11:51:09] <mozzwald> awesome. got any plans for it?
[11:54:59] *** ssieb has quit IRC
[11:57:32] <ReggieUK> not sure entirely yet :D
[11:57:39] <ReggieUK> so many things it can do
[11:57:56] <ReggieUK> I guess getting a custom kernel and rootfs would be a good start
[11:58:59] <ReggieUK> are there many people still active on devving for the z2?
[11:59:40] <ReggieUK> I'm guessing i need to do something like angstrom/oe/bitbake/linux
[12:01:27] <mozzwald> yeah, there's a few people in here that still work on it. a lot of us are using openwrt now
[12:01:37] <ReggieUK> aha
[12:01:49] <ReggieUK> that sounds like more of a plan than farting around with oe/bitbake
[12:02:01] <mozzwald> hehe :)
[12:02:03] <ReggieUK> didn't you say you used to work with claude?
[12:02:08] <ReggieUK> on the didj
[12:02:21] <mozzwald> me? no... who's claude?
[12:02:29] <ReggieUK> ahh, no worries :D
[12:03:07] <ReggieUK> claude is an awesome embedded hacker that worked on opening up the didj/explorer (leapfrog consoles)
[12:03:16] <mozzwald> ahh.. cool
[12:03:17] <ReggieUK> NullMoogleCable also did some nice work on it
[12:03:33] <ReggieUK> I could've sworn i spoke to you on #raspberrypi the other day :D
[12:03:53] <ReggieUK> I know I've seen your name about, probably whilst i was skipping through z2 info :)
[12:04:27] <mozzwald> i've been lurking in the raspi channel :)
[12:06:21] <ReggieUK> ahh, cool, I'm not going completely mad then
[12:08:31] <mozzwald> there's some openwrt-zipit info in a few places: http://mozzwald.com http://chainxor.org/openwrt-zipit and http://blog.engine12.com/?p=460
[12:09:26] <ReggieUK> thanks :)
[12:10:03] <ReggieUK> I@m guessing openwrt is a bit simpler than messing with oe/bitbake?
[12:10:15] <ReggieUK> and i get to play with gmenu2x some more
[12:10:24] <ReggieUK> I've ported it to a couple of embedded devices myself
[12:10:27] <ReggieUK> not too well so far
[12:10:43] <ReggieUK> working and usuable but no one else has been particularly interested in using it
[12:11:10] <ReggieUK> then again, on one of the platforms, you need to desolder the 8MB ram chip and put a bigger one in its place
[12:11:16] <mozzwald> I've never used oe, but others have had used it with some success
[12:11:16] <ReggieUK> I put 64mb on it :D
[12:11:32] <mozzwald> nice
[12:11:40] <ReggieUK> the only time I've seen oe was for the leapfrog didj/explorer
[12:11:59] <ReggieUK> but it was missing some proprietary stuff that just broke everything
[12:12:25] <ReggieUK> so we used their wonky build system and a codesourcery toolchain without their oe/bitbake stuff
[12:12:37] <ReggieUK> which would've been nice as it seemed to be fairly comprehensive
[12:12:40] <mozzwald> openwrt is buildroot based which isn't too difficult. an here's the easy instruction to build your own: http://anarsoul.blogspot.com/2012/02/openwrt-for-zipit-z2.html
[12:13:39] <ReggieUK> now those are the kind of instructions I like
[12:14:09] <ReggieUK> no cryptic env vars, compiler switches and incantations
[12:14:10] <mozzwald> the waiting is the hardest part :)
[12:14:36] <ReggieUK> how much waiting?
[12:14:55] <ReggieUK> I've got a dual core athlon pc and a quad core intel box I can fire up linux on
[12:15:10] <ReggieUK> 4/6GB repspectively
[12:15:37] <mozzwald> it takes a while to build the toolchain, then the packages. but once the toolchain is built and your base rootfs, you only need to compile the packages you need
[12:15:39] <ReggieUK> it's all a fairly moot point atm though, I don't have a microSD card
[12:16:04] <ReggieUK> ahh, sounds very much like minifs
[12:16:19] <mozzwald> you can run openwrt from the internal flash, but you'll still need a card to flash it
[12:16:27] <ReggieUK> indeed
[12:16:37] <ReggieUK> can't do it via the dock and usb?
[12:16:44] <ReggieUK> that's a shame
[12:17:22] <mozzwald> you might be able to after the stock software is gone

[12:41:52] <ReggieUK> anyone know why he decided to desolder a 3.3v regulator on the bluetooth dongle and then attach 5v to the 3.3v in pin?
[12:42:00] <ReggieUK> didn't he expect it to go bang?
[12:42:46] <ReggieUK> nvm, I'll read some more
[12:48:56] <ReggieUK> I see now from his other posts that he did fry one but he also needs 3.3v direct from the dock connector to power the bluetooth dongle 'mobile'

[19:47:03] <deeice> german_: What userland are you using for netsurf? On some, the option key toggles the mouse emulator.

[22:42:50] <mozzwald> elcaset: hirose makes a mating connector that you can mod a usb port into.
[22:44:18] <mozzwald> usb host will only work though if zipit is plugged in or you bulid in a 3.3 to 5v step up circuit for power
[22:46:00] <mozzwald> deeice: does nupdf have gui/menu for loading files?

[23:43:20] <mozzwald> german_: try mouse-emul instead. you'll hafta read anarsouls readme on github for the proper setup
[23:43:47] <mozzwald> i had it working with netsurf on openwrt
[23:45:39] <mozzwald> or if you hang around for a couple hours i'll find my config when i get home
[23:46:33] <german_> Could not grab /dev/input/event1: Device or resource busy
[23:47:19] <mozzwald> ebindkeys probably has exclusive access
[23:48:09] <mozzwald> try killing it
[23:49:15] <mozzwald> maybe its possible to combine ebindkeys and mouse-emul
[23:49:26] <mozzwald> back to work..
[23:51:46] <german_> It's still grabbed. I will try again.
