[06:40:21] <abrasive> i don't suppose anyone has a spare z2 kicking around?
[06:40:46] <abrasive> i have an eken m001 tablet by way of trade.
[06:44:39] <abrasive> ...or cold, hard cash
[06:49:48] <projectgus> abrasive: I might be able to hook you up
[06:49:55] <projectgus> I have a good supply of WM8505s though
[06:49:57] <projectgus> :P
[06:50:08] <projectgus> are you building something interesting?
[06:50:22] <abrasive> yeah.
[06:50:30] <abrasive> well, yes and no.
[06:50:39] <abrasive> a PKI certificate authority
[06:51:16] <abrasive> no awesome hardware hacking, just an RSA smartcard built into a Z2
[06:51:24] <abrasive> x3 for distributed powers.
[06:52:10] <projectgus> cool :)
[06:52:14] <projectgus> well, I think I have a spare one
[06:52:29] <abrasive> wow, Z2s are so much easier to get into than anything else i've opened recently.
[06:52:45] <abrasive> (though since that's a volvo odometer and an airport express, not really a fair comparison)
[06:53:19] <abrasive> i would be pleased to buy it from you, if i may.
[06:53:32] <abrasive> perhaps without burdening you with more 850x gear ;)
[06:55:08] <projectgus> hahaha
[06:55:15] <projectgus> they do have annoyingly little solder pads, though
[06:55:24] <projectgus> although I guess compared to desoldering things from the AE it's probably still not so bad
[06:55:30] <abrasive> i have way too much experience with tiny tiny SMD
[06:55:51] <projectgus> can you drop me an email tomorrow, I'll be in at MHV tomorrow night and I can check my secret zipit stash
[06:55:56] <abrasive> hahaha!
[06:55:56] <abrasive> sure.
[06:55:57] <projectgus> we can another group buy a month or so ago, got 20 more for $10ea+post
[06:56:05] <projectgus> came out about $18 a unit
[06:56:12] <abrasive> nice!
[06:56:15] <projectgus> so it'll be that plus whatever postage to sydney costs
[06:56:32] <projectgus> unless you can find a use for 19 more, in which case I recommend buying direct
[06:56:38] <abrasive> hahahaha
[06:56:40] <abrasive> i doubt it.
[06:56:50] <abrasive> my two have been sitting idle for many moons.
[06:57:07] <projectgus> heh
[06:58:17] <projectgus> and the march of the cheap ARMs goes on...
[06:58:21] <projectgus> I spotted these today http://www.dealextreme.com/p/android-full-hd-1080p-media-player-w-usb-sd-hdmi-rj45-ports-black-2-x-aaa-102992
[06:58:25] <projectgus> Cortex A9 they say
[06:58:51] <abrasive> i wonder what processor that is?
[06:58:58] <abrasive> i accidentally a android in the end
[06:59:23] <abrasive> scored a tegra-based phone, complete with HDMI output and USB host
[06:59:55] <abrasive> and since free is as cheap as it gets, it kinda stopped my hunt for the cheapest linux-tools.
[07:01:02] <abrasive> i wonder who made the SoC in that android tv thing
[07:01:16] <abrasive> i also like the internet explorer-ish logo
[07:01:46] <projectgus> abrasive: that's pretty good
[07:02:13] <projectgus> for free, very good. and proper linux support on the SoC!
[07:02:19] <abrasive> yeah... from telstra, of all people
[07:02:36] <abrasive> it runs linux side-by-side with android
[07:02:40] <projectgus> yeah, I think I'm finally over buying arm devices just because they're free. I'm just amazed (although I really shouldbn't be) at how cheap these things are getting.
[07:02:44] <projectgus> abrasive: neat
[07:02:52] <projectgus> s/free/cheap enough they might as well be free/
[07:02:55] <abrasive> with all the attendant problems, of course, but it's nice to be able to run Xorg at the same time as android
[07:02:58] <abrasive> yeah.
[07:03:05] <abrasive> zipits are ridiculously cheap in the US now.
[07:03:43] <projectgus> Xorg? really. nice
[07:03:52] <abrasive> xorg with opengl, no less
[07:03:52] <projectgus> I'd seen the hacks where you run a chroot linux distro and then VNC to it
[07:04:03] <abrasive> this is a chroot linux distro where you just use the hdmi port...
[07:04:19] <abrasive> rather than buying motorola's $400ish "lapdock" etc.
[07:04:38] <abrasive> and using their walled-in webtop linux
[07:04:56] <projectgus> oh, it's that phone
[07:05:06] <projectgus> someone at the MHV hackerspace has that
[07:05:06] <abrasive> there's more than one now
[07:05:25] <projectgus> oh, ok
[07:06:02] <projectgus> yeah, I only looked at their one briefly but the environment where the "ubuntu linux" ran (webtop) looked dangerously vendorwareish to me. although I didn't poke that closely, it looked like the kind of thing that wouldn't upgrade cleanly ever.
[07:12:37] <abrasive> yes.
[07:12:42] <abrasive> i had to blow it away
[07:12:52] <abrasive> and replace it with a "linux for tegra" build from nvidia
[07:13:07] <abrasive> and then patch it for a nasty erratum workaround.
[07:13:22] <abrasive> now that's all sorted, though, it's vanilla ubuntu (except for the libc)
[07:15:56] <abrasive> binary-blob graphics drivers and DSP codec bridges, unfortunately.
[07:16:19] *** Uhrheber has joined #zipit
[07:19:57] <projectgus> abrasive: I must say that's pretty good though
[07:20:07] <projectgus> do you know if you'd be able to use that setup with the dock thingy, or probably not?
[07:20:11] <abrasive> i think it's pretty spiffing.
[07:20:13] <abrasive> yeah, you would
[07:20:32] <abrasive> either with the standard dock (USB ports + HDMI) or the lapdock (keyboard/screen/maybe battery)
[07:20:37] <abrasive> though i have neither
[07:20:46] <projectgus> nice
[07:20:51] <abrasive> the phone came with a micro hdmi cable, that was enough.
