[01:44:50] <M25> none4now: if you boot the zipit, then close the lid while it loads, the lid state will be flipped
[01:45:02] <M25> I can pastebin it if you like
[01:45:13] <none4now> cool
[01:45:30] <none4now> i'm fighting with apt, i think apt-get upgrade was a mistake
[01:54:24] <M25> ...it worked fine for me
[01:54:26] <M25> did you use aptitude?
[01:55:31] <none4now> nope
[01:55:57] <none4now> made it most the way till perl, then it would segfault.. lotsa free space..
[01:56:41] <M25> OH!
[01:56:47] <M25> make a swap file
[01:56:52] <M25> btw
[01:57:15] <M25> if you segfault during an apt-get, you'll need to do a fix-broken-packages, or a dpkg --configure -a
[01:57:25] <M25> the segfault is due to running out of RAM
[01:58:21] <none4now> lookin at that, swap looks good so far
[02:00:09] <M25> how big did you make it?
[02:00:58] <none4now> hmm looks like it's only 30 megs but it isn't being touched realy.. I'll keep diggin, it's a partition, gets mounted..
[02:04:53] <M25> run top
[02:05:07] <M25> if it shows up there, it's working, I made mine 64MB
[02:05:34] <none4now> yeh its good
[02:05:56] <none4now> I'm gonna want to mess with the partitions again anyway so maybe I'll come back to that..
[02:06:33] <M25> honestly, what's his name was right, as long as all your programs are under half your physical RAM (oh no, dude, don't use a partition, use a swap file, that way the writes get write-spread by the SD card) it runs pretty fast
[02:07:06] <none4now> thought I had read that.. gotta switch that up then
[02:07:34] <none4now> ram I'm having a tough time with reducing
[02:07:40] <M25> honestly, I can multitask like 4 things at once, even with 100% full RAM, as long as they all stay under 16MB each
[02:07:57] <none4now> i turned off a lot in rccconf.. boot, using 25meg.. *shrug*
[02:07:59] <M25> I get to 90% usage after I run like 2 programs, it's ok, most of it's cache
[02:08:01] <M25> oh
[02:08:09] <M25> I use like 16 at boot
[02:08:10] <M25> that's odd
[02:08:17] <M25> use top, it's great for that sort of stuff
[02:08:20] <M25> you want the RES column
[02:08:26] <none4now> yeh nothing is sticking out
[02:08:34] <M25> good luck man, I gotta sleep
[02:08:40] <M25> have a final in 6.5 hours
[02:08:42] <none4now> k cool

[21:50:47] <none4now> alright.. today I expanded my ext3 parition to fill my sd card, killed the swap partition made it a file.. got apt-get dist-upgrade to go
[21:51:07] <none4now> got rid of X..
[21:51:20] <none4now> getting to be a nice little box
[21:54:02] <DoorToDoorGeek> no gui at all?
[21:54:42] <none4now> not right now.. couldn't really stand it (rootnexus), not usable compared to something like the stock firmware
[21:55:07] <none4now> i would like some kind of menu for common tasks but haven't looked into it yet
[21:55:08] <DoorToDoorGeek> planning on putting something else on it?
[21:55:21] <DoorToDoorGeek> what was that one ...
[21:55:40] <none4now> I love command line so its cool but typing isn't all that fun on it so.. ;)
[21:56:47] <none4now> how you got yours setup?
[22:06:24] <DoorToDoorGeek> just normal, I am lazy
[22:06:47] <DoorToDoorGeek> I was looking for that super light distro, no gui, menu based os, dos-like
[22:09:55] <none4now> oh.. so you get it then
[22:10:16] <none4now> what you using for menu?
[22:10:26] <DoorToDoorGeek> hotkeys
[22:10:39] <DoorToDoorGeek> menu was displayed (and customizable)
[22:11:28] <none4now> hm, it's called 'hotkeys' ?
[22:12:22] <DoorToDoorGeek> no, I can not remember the name
[22:12:32] <DoorToDoorGeek> chad did talk about it a few months ago
[22:12:46] <none4now> cool

[22:54:47] <none4now> hm does the z2 not save the time?
[22:57:20] <mozzwald> nope
[22:57:57] <mozzwald> add "ntpdate time.nist.gov" to the end of your connect script
[22:57:58] <none4now> crappy
[22:58:02] <none4now> yeh
[22:58:08] <none4now> tnx
[22:59:42] <none4now> can't find anything in the logs about console textmode font size, know if anyones tried smaller?
[23:01:33] <rkdavis> none4now: the font is compiled into the kernel use setfont to change it
[23:01:49] <rkdavis> there are some niceish ones that are smaller than the default
[23:01:59] <none4now> we really should be compiling all these answers
[23:02:01] <rkdavis> but if you get too small it becomes unreadable
[23:02:03] <none4now> the logs are ok but..
[23:02:45] <none4now> rk: figured.. back in the day i remember there were alt modes likx 80x50, tried anything like that?
[23:03:04] <rkdavis> none4now: well changing fonts is a standard linux thing so not really something that is only for the zipit that needs documebnting
[23:03:26] <none4now> no thats true.. i woulda found the answer pretty quick
[23:03:30] <rkdavis> none4now: i have a nice font that gives 53x30
[23:04:00] <rkdavis> but once you get to 80x30 it's almost unreadable without very good eyes and alot of magnification
[23:04:42] <rkdavis> http://japi.dddgames.com/~jpimble/zipit/ thos will give you arounf 70 to 80 columns
[23:04:52] <rkdavis> but they are really small i tells ya :)
[23:05:38] <rkdavis> i actually increase the font size i find LatArCyrHeb-16 is actually nice -- large enough to really read easily and not too large that line based stuff isn yukky

[23:06:35] <none4now> baha i just put my soldering magnifying glass over it, looks like something out of blade runner
[23:07:45] <none4now> I get a wierd feel if ls -al doesn't look right ;)
[23:07:47] <none4now> feeling
[23:10:53] <rkdavis> yup

[23:42:12] <mozzwald> anybody done compiling directly on the zipit?
[23:45:41] <mozzwald> or can anyone recommend something really easy to compile with little/no dependencies as a test?
