[00:39:52] <k5egg> flyback: my HTs arrive tomorrow!
[00:40:38] <k5egg> http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=320468660888
[00:43:52] <flyback> nice
[00:45:09] <Mcavity> dtal.. i had a program that did a good job of transcodeing.. see if i can remeber it
[00:49:07] <k5egg> yeah
[00:49:11] <k5egg> I dunno what I'ma do with them all
[00:49:12] <k5egg> haha
[00:52:55] <Mcavity> bla cant find it
[00:55:55] <Mcavity> ha found it
[00:56:00] <Mcavity> media cell video converter
[01:04:55] <Reddog^> k5egg: i've got a project for you with that auction
[01:05:40] <Reddog^> hook one to a soundcard, and get me a working live transcription program for anything on the channel
[01:10:09] <k5egg> Reddog^: that'd be easy using freeswitch
[01:10:15] <k5egg> and its text-to-speech engine
[01:10:31] <k5egg> or do you mean radio channel to text
[01:10:35] <k5egg> not text to radio channel :)
[01:10:43] <Reddog^> right, voice to text
[01:10:53] <k5egg> hah thats hard ;)
[01:11:05] <Reddog^> want something like what google voice uses
[01:11:27] <Reddog^> it's nowhere near perfect, but for my intents and purposes it should work
[01:12:11] <Reddog^> i have a police scanner running 24/7, i'd love to be able to convert that to a text file/database.. and also record it to mp3/ogg
[01:12:23] <Reddog^> thereby having it searchable
[01:41:26] <k5egg> yeah. hell I think there was a murder in my county tonight (maybe 3 a year, tops)
[01:41:49] <k5egg> but hell if I could figure it out from the radio. they got tight lipped (but obviously very excited) on the radio by the time I was listening
[01:42:10] <k5egg> I saw the crime scene on the way back from getting dinner, got home, took my aprs igate down and used the scanner to listen to the SO's VHF channel
[01:42:29] <k5egg> being in BFE, they haven't went to a trunking system

[08:39:45] <rkdavis> morning all
[08:40:10] <rkdavis> dTal: it was you looking to change fonts wasn't it?
[09:21:18] *** wicknix has quit IRC
[09:28:50] <SDuensin> Greetings.
[09:34:20] *** GPSFan has joined #zipit
[09:39:58] <rkdavis> morning SDuensin
[09:40:38] *** strike_ has joined #zipit
[09:40:40] <rkdavis> busy catching up on my downloaded tv, playong with fonts on the zipit and finishing up my graphic for my keymap so i know which key is which :)
[09:41:58] <SDuensin> I'm still trying to come up with my "killer app" for the Z2. So far, the best I've got is to load it with all the Infocom games.
[09:43:00] <rkdavis> :)
[09:43:55] <rkdavis> http://russelldavis.org/zipitz2/zipitkeymap-template.pdf http://russelldavis.org/zipitz2/zipitkeymap.map those two should match iirc
[09:44:43] *** strike_ has quit IRC
[09:44:59] *** marex has joined #zipit
[09:45:08] <SDuensin> I'm waiting for "everythingToMakeItWork.tgz"
[09:45:13] <SDuensin> :-P
[09:45:16] <rkdavis> green are currently unused and black are currently unusable in console
[09:45:47] <rkdavis> got some nice retro fonts too but no small ones yet, working on a 6x8 one atm from a computer called the camputers lynx
[09:47:19] <rkdavis> SDuensin: actually the "EverythingToMakeItWork(tm).tgz is pretty much ray's iz2s stuff, it's pretty nifty and for the most part has everything you could want for general computing and chatting
[09:47:57] <SDuensin> Yea. I have to put my original firmware back for that.
[09:48:16] <SDuensin> Not terrible, but that requires me to actually find where I backed it up. :-)
[09:48:53] *** Malwyn has quit IRC
[09:49:17] *** Malwyn has joined #zipit
[09:49:41] <rkdavis> SDuensin: that's why i have it backed up on about 7 disks plus my harddisk and on a couple of thumbdrives and sd cards
[09:49:54] <rkdavis> in several different versions
[09:49:57] <SDuensin> hehe
[09:50:05] <SDuensin> Well, I have one Z2, so one version.
[09:50:29] <SDuensin> Pretty sure I know where it is. Just a matter of putting it, a cable, the Z2, and me all in the same spot at the same time.
[09:50:38] <rkdavis> i have 3 copies of each one from each zipit plus the ffs dires as you never know although they are all the same
[09:50:56] <rkdavis> a cable? for why?
[09:51:26] <SDuensin> Cable or SD writer. Something to get it off the PC.
[09:51:35] <rkdavis> ah?
[09:51:53] <SDuensin> Last thing I flashed the Z2 with didn't do wireless.
[09:52:06] <rkdavis> ah
[09:52:33] <dTal> rkdavis: yes I wanted to change fonts
[09:52:45] <rkdavis> i'm still wondering if we setup the initramfs for the .29 kernel correctly whether that run the stoc app
[09:52:58] <rkdavis> dTal: what eerror message were you getting?
[09:53:27] <rkdavis> i forgot one important thing about setfont especially if you are doing it through an ssh session
[09:53:48] <rkdavis> the version i am using wants the -C /dev/tty0 param too
[09:54:15] <dTal> I was getting "invalid font file" or somesuch
[09:54:39] <rkdavis> i don't have any working fonts smaller than 8x8 atm but i'm working on it, the small ones i had been using on .29/.31 don't seem to work in busybox's setfont
[09:54:43] <dTal> stuff statically compiled for zshell consistently segfaults
[09:55:09] <rkdavis> have you tried my latest busybox?
[09:55:14] <dTal> someone mentioned that they'd successfully gotten an 80 column terminal working
[09:55:25] <dTal> no
[09:55:30] <rkdavis> yup i've had it working but it was on an upgraded zipit
[09:55:50] <dTal> I just have OE, and a debian install I managed to break messing around with fonts :)
[09:55:54] <rkdavis> the psf files i used for that don't seem to work with busybox
[09:56:15] <SDuensin> "Upgraded"?
[09:56:19] <rkdavis> i.e. the jpimble or whatever ones
[09:56:32] <rkdavis> i.e. oe and debian with .29/.31
[09:57:41] <rkdavis> dTal: grab my copy of busybox and a copy of console-data from somewhere and try that
[09:58:06] <rkdavis> http://russelldavis.org/zipitz2/Busybox-1.15.3/
[09:58:35] <rkdavis> and marex yes i know i should put the source in the directory too, just not got around to it yet :)
[09:59:33] *** Oxymis has quit IRC
[09:59:53] *** Oxymis has joined #zipit
[10:00:58] <rkdavis> http://web.archive.org/web/20060811132752/http://www.manuel.msxnet.org/msx/MSXfont.psf and that's the font i am currently playing with
[10:01:14] <rkdavis> it's not small enough but if it works then you know others will
[10:01:21] <SDuensin> MSX! The format that was going to rule the world! :-P
[10:02:02] <rkdavis> it doesn't look too bad on the zipit but of course it's massive
[10:02:10] <rkdavis> but very usable
[10:06:59] <dTal> interesting
[10:07:52] <dTal> so what, how do I install your busybox and console-data
[10:08:13] <dTal> just overwrite the old ones on the OE microSD?
[10:08:46] <rkdavis> well i use busybox in different ways but the safest
[10:08:54] <rkdavis> is to just d/l it to your home dir
[10:08:58] <rkdavis> and run from there
[10:09:34] <rkdavis> i/.e. /mnt/sd0/home/busybox setfont -C /dev/tty0 [fontname]
[10:09:53] <rkdavis> if that is the path to your home dir anyway
[10:09:53] <dTal> right
[10:10:03] <dTal> that looks familiar
[10:10:20] <dTal> is that built for z2shell?
[10:10:27] <rkdavis> the ones from jpimble's site the small atari ones seem to be the wrong size
[10:10:44] <rkdavis> yup i built it for z2shell but i've used it in oe and debian too
[10:11:15] <dTal> everything built for z2shell segfaults instantly for me
[10:11:27] <rkdavis> this might not
[10:11:36] <dTal> I'll give it a go
[10:11:39] <rkdavis> i built it outside of scratchbox
[10:11:48] <rkdavis> i.e. with real cross compilers
[10:12:15] <dTal> I ran debian's console-helper and it did change the font but it also changed the keymap
[10:12:20] <rkdavis> there is another version outthere not as new but it works almost anywhere that' i've tested incl. the same binary on other machines not zipits
[10:13:22] *** Oxymis has quit IRC
[10:13:30] <rkdavis> i just had an idea but i need to readup on it -- there is a dump font command somewhere that dumps the current used font, if i can get jpimbles small fonts running again on one of my upgraded zipit's i could dump it and maybe it would work ont he z2shell'ed on
