[00:40:35] <nettech> Hello all. Does anybody have a URL to instructions on how to restore a Z2 from OpenZipit back to the origional factory application? I have the origional backup kernel, but I have had no luck in DD/flashing it back to internal rom.
[00:45:07] <nettech> nettech42@ydl.net is my email if anyone has any suggestions.

[14:25:02] <Stacker2> inall here I am ;-)
[14:25:06] <Stacker2> finally*
[14:28:27] <Ray_Haque> Stacker2: We've been expecting you.
[14:30:50] <Stacker2> hehehe
[14:30:55] <Stacker2> ray, I'm on your blog
[14:31:00] <Stacker2> looking at yyour tutorial :-)
[14:31:15] <Stacker2> I think I'm the onel one that got a Z2 in Europe :-)
[14:31:25] <Stacker2> onlyy one*
[14:32:42] <Ray_Haque> :-D
[14:33:15] <Stacker2> I'm trying to understand if
[14:33:15] <Ray_Haque> Does EU use the same wifi frequency ranges?
[14:33:30] <Stacker2> mmm...I think so, as far as it works :-)
[14:33:36] <Stacker2> well I should check
[14:33:52] <Stacker2> unfortunately the Z2 has not the CE logo so
[14:34:05] <Ray_Haque> Hey, nice. I think we are all pretty much the same with wireless except for Japan for whatever reason.
[14:34:09] <Stacker2> I was just able to get one from ebay in a sort of "black market"
[14:34:17] <Limp_Trizkit> the US has channels 1-11
[14:34:22] <Limp_Trizkit> the EU has channels 1-13
[14:34:26] <Limp_Trizkit> Japan has channels 1-14
[14:34:41] <Limp_Trizkit> you can do the appropriate frequency conversions on your own
[14:34:48] <Stacker2> but it works :-)
[14:34:54] <Limp_Trizkit> yes, it will work
[14:35:23] <Stacker2> how can I change the freq?
[14:35:31] <Stacker2> is it possible by software?
[14:35:33] <Limp_Trizkit> by changing the channel...
[14:35:56] <Limp_Trizkit> http://forums.wi-fiplanet.com/showpost.php?s=cf727bce370d268a3bf594b35b15e20d&p=24940&postcount=2
[14:37:13] <Stacker2> is it a software tweak?
[14:39:01] <Stacker2> considering that I'm still trying to understand how to run something from the Improved Z2 Shell ... :-(
[14:39:17] <Limp_Trizkit> http://wirelessdefence.org/Contents/LinuxWirelessCommands.htm#iwconfig%20Commands
[14:39:36] <Limp_Trizkit> remember that your router should be running on the same channel, you'll need to look that up yourself as it varies from router to router
[14:39:45] <Limp_Trizkit> if you don't know what you're doing, leave the zipit on auto
[14:40:14] <Limp_Trizkit> i don't mean to sound like a jackass saying that
[14:40:17] <Stacker2> is Zipit on auto b default?
[14:40:22] <Limp_Trizkit> yes
[14:40:26] <Limp_Trizkit> or it should be, anyway
[14:40:34] <Stacker2> so it's better to leave it like this ;-)
[14:40:38] <Limp_Trizkit> yes
[14:40:56] <Stacker2> I was wondering, in the Improved Z2 Shell
[14:41:02] <Stacker2> is there any software integrated
[14:41:07] <Stacker2> I mean, is the IRC inside too?
[14:41:57] <Limp_Trizkit> irssi should be installed according to the documentation
[14:42:13] <Stacker2> ouch
[14:42:24] <Stacker2> so it's all about linux command line work
[14:42:44] <Limp_Trizkit> well, that's what a shell is...
[14:43:05] <Stacker2> I just know the shell since I had to use it on hackintosh
[14:43:48] <Stacker2> does exist a xvid player that works on Iz2S also?
[14:45:51] <Limp_Trizkit> not entirely sure
[14:46:23] <Stacker2> mmm I think I need to reset with a pin to load from sd
[14:47:55] <Stacker2> I'm getting so problem with the zipit, it doesn't turn off when it's logged into MyFriendz :-/
[14:49:09] <Stacker2> hope is nothing about batter
[14:49:16] <Stacker2> battery*
[14:51:40] <Stacker2> mmm, no ways, it doent's load from SD :-(
[14:51:45] <Stacker2> dunno why :-(
[14:56:34] *** t7g_ has joined #zipit
[15:13:18] *** T7g has quit IRC
[15:17:20] <Stacker2> no ways to load from SD :-(
[15:25:38] <Ray_Haque> Stacker2: Is the Zipit recognizing the SD card when you insert it while running the stock OS?
[15:25:54] <Stacker2> yes
[15:26:07] <Stacker2> its say thath e found SD
[15:26:12] <Ray_Haque> Hrm. What size is it?
[15:26:16] <Stacker2> 2GB
[15:27:00] <Ray_Haque> Are you trying to boot IZ2S?
[15:27:05] <Stacker2> yes
[15:27:34] <Ray_Haque> Did you copy everything from the zip file to the *root* of the SD card?
[15:27:41] <Stacker2> yes
[15:27:59] <Ray_Haque> Ah, did you shut *completely* down from the stock OS?
[15:28:07] <Stacker2> bin, home, etc ...all in the root
[15:28:24] <Stacker2> I resetted and removed the battery
[15:28:33] <Ray_Haque> Hrm. That should do it.
[15:28:57] <Ray_Haque> When you boot, it should be looking for that sh fie.
[15:29:02] <Stacker2> the worst problem is that zipit never shut down once it logged into msn *_*
[15:29:08] <Stacker2> I must always reset it
[15:29:25] <Ray_Haque> There are many bugs with the stock OS. :-)
[15:29:45] <Stacker2> but reset nee a pin :-D
[15:30:12] <Stacker2> I must fit a pin on the keyboard
[15:30:43] *** rednul has quit IRC
[15:32:05] <Stacker2> finallY I had to reset tuning on the password protection
[15:32:15] <Stacker2> then restart it and writing "ZIPIT"
[15:32:17] <Ray_Haque> Stacker2: Did you by chance try to make changes to the script?
[15:32:46] <Stacker2> nono, it's working now, the problem was dad I had to reset with the "ZIPIT" password trick
[15:33:08] <Stacker2> and it's impossible if it doesn't make the soft-off
[15:33:20] <Ray_Haque> Ah! I have never used those features. ;-)
[15:33:34] <Stacker2> it's the only way to really reset myy zipit
[15:33:39] <Stacker2> wonder why *_*
[15:33:41] <Ray_Haque> I should put something about that in the FAQ.
[15:34:02] <Stacker2> you must turn the password on in the tool settings
[15:34:13] <Stacker2> then you must turn off the Z2
[15:34:32] <Stacker2> then when ou turn it on you must write "ZIPIT" in capital as pasword and it resets for real
[15:35:11] <Stacker2> but as far as my Z2 doesn't turn off normally and I had to reset it doesn't store the "turn password check on" :-(
[15:36:51] <Stacker2> *obtaining an IP adress ...
[15:37:55] <Ray_Haque> Stacker2: If it hangs there for a long time, you may need to push-pin reset it.
[15:38:21] <Ray_Haque> Stacker2: It could indicate a typo in your wifi settings, or a stubborn/uncooperative access point.
[15:38:43] <Stacker2> my fault
[15:38:51] <Stacker2> wrong wifi name inserted :-D
[15:40:51] <Stacker2> ouch, it's not loading the SD again :-(
[15:41:00] <Stacker2> It enters stright in the first boot wizard
[15:41:09] <Stacker2> straight*
[15:43:36] <Ray_Haque> wow. You are having all sorts of problems.
[15:43:49] <Ray_Haque> I never have trouble booting off my SD card.
[15:44:04] <Ray_Haque> I wonder if it's having trouble reading it or something?
[15:45:16] <Stacker2> "Mini SD card inserted, Database Ready"
[15:47:44] <Stacker2> do an USB charger exist?
[15:51:15] <Stacker2> so, after the reset I had to skip the wizard by:
[15:51:52] <Stacker2> choose manually network clicking "next"->click on HOME->tools->set default
[15:52:02] <Stacker2> after the soft reboot it works :-D
[15:53:19] <Ray_Haque> I just had a frenchman set me straight on SDL compilation errors.
[15:53:31] <Ray_Haque> Now I can get back to work on a few packages I was playing with. Hooray!
[15:54:08] <Stacker2> which ones? :-)
[15:55:38] <Ray_Haque> Right now, I am working on getting a super nes and a gameboy advance emulator working.
[15:55:51] <Stacker2> cool
[15:56:02] <Stacker2> super nes is 320x240?
[15:59:00] <Stacker2> mmm it asks for WPA passphrase, but I have WEP... :-/
[16:04:37] <Ray_Haque> Yeah, I need to work on that script.
[16:04:42] <Ray_Haque> Try leaving it empty.
[16:04:52] <Ray_Haque> No wait, fill it in.
[16:05:14] <Ray_Haque> wpa_supplicant should determine the connection type based on your key size.
[16:08:43] <Stacker2> stucked on "Obtaining IP adress..."
[16:08:45] <Stacker2> :-(
[16:09:59] *** marex has joined #zipit
[16:11:31] <Ray_Haque> Hrm. You may be better off saying "no" to network support at boot time, and then try messing with iwconfig.
[16:14:51] <Stacker2> the problem is that I'm not so into linux command line
[16:15:03] <Stacker2> so I don't think I'll be able to turn on wireless later
[16:15:06] *** shirozaru has joined #zipit
[16:15:12] <Stacker2> is there a tutorial somewhere?
[16:15:18] <Stacker2> or just a string?

[16:19:33] *** shiro has quit IRC
[16:20:11] <Ray_Haque> Stacker2: If you do a iwconfig -h you will get a list of options. The "interface" is eth0.
[16:20:47] <Ray_Haque> You will want to first do a iwconfig eth0 essid <access point name>
[16:21:17] <Ray_Haque> Then I suppose you would do iwconfig eth0 key <wep key>
[16:21:44] <Ray_Haque> Then .. you would try to obtain an ip with udhcpc
[16:22:03] <Stacker2> ok
[16:25:23] <Ray_Haque> Looks like the Zipit doesnt have enough free memory to run the visual gameboy emu.
[16:25:26] <Ray_Haque> Bummer.
[16:26:55] <sirloin> Ray_Haque: would swap help?
[16:27:31] <Ray_Haque> Hrm. I dont know.
[16:28:35] <Stacker2> "SET failed on device eth0 ; Connection refused."
[16:29:24] <Ray_Haque> Your access point doesn't like you. :-)
[16:29:32] <Ray_Haque> Try iwlist eth0 scan
[16:29:56] <Ray_Haque> And make sure you are entering your ESSID exactly how it shows up (upper/lowecase letters and all).
[16:33:27] <Stacker2> done
[16:33:45] <Stacker2> but still getting connection refusion :-(
[16:36:46] <Ray_Haque> Hrm. I don't know. I have had this problem myself before with linux in general.
[16:42:35] <Stacker2> no prob ;-)
[16:42:41] <Stacker2> thank you for the support
