[02:00:04] <mitchell> anyone interested in chatting about the zipit?
[02:02:45] <marex> mitchell, what do you need ?
[02:04:08] <mitchell> marex: I'm trying to afix a zipit to a bicycle using either an enclosure or steel cable. has this been attempted before/
[02:06:55] <marex> hm ... this is mostly kernel development lounge ...
[02:06:59] <marex> sweetlilmre, ping ^
[02:09:08] <mitchell> marex: are you on the yahoo group/
[02:09:51] <marex> nope ...

[13:28:42] <kylea> So has anyone ever considered hosting a public ipkg repository?
[13:29:01] <kylea> It would reduce the amount of reworking the wheel
[13:29:49] <kylea> or maybe there could be an "official one" and prebuilt OE images would have ipkg preconfigured to grab from it?
[13:30:38] <kylea> Or maybe there is already one that I am not aware of

[19:17:45] <mitchell> is it possible to set up mesh networking using zipits?
[19:18:26] <marex> mitchell, ask at #libertas or better at libertas-dev mailing list, the card is SPI8686
[19:23:17] <marex> mitchell, iirc the only cards that supported mesh routing were USB8388 (I have one of those too, got it from OLPC) and they needed special firmware for it too
[19:24:45] <marex> you might be interested in libertas-tf driver, but that has still some way to go - it's a attempt to make USB8388 a complete softmac solution (with open firmware)
[19:28:50] <mitchell> marex: the the libertas-tf driver page says 88W83886, and the zipit has 88W8686. is that still the right direction?
[19:30:03] <marex> that's 8388 ... it's a typo
[19:31:08] <marex> mitchell, well it'll need some work ... and it won't be easy
[19:31:53] <marex> you'd have to get the libertas-tf working with SPI8686 ... it'd be quite a lot of work
[19:32:22] <marex> but it's the most promising way, don't expect marvell to release fw with mesh support for SPI8686 ;-)
[19:33:34] <mitchell> the marvell fw that comes with everything I need.... that'd definitely be too easy for the life of an open source developer
[19:34:09] <marex> what do you mean ?
[19:37:39] <mitchell> complex open source solutions I try to put together usually need some time/patience or development to get working, not simple 1-2-3's
[19:42:59] <marex> mitchell, I never said getting libertas-tf working with new card would be easy
[19:47:27] <mitchell> marex: you think that adding another card to the zipit is the way to go?
[19:49:10] <marex> mitchell, no, I think libertas-tf is the only way possible
[19:49:18] <marex> adding another card would be too hardcore
[19:50:12] <marex> (hardware hacking, the pins for CF interface are not available on the PCB, ping for USB aren't either)
[19:50:26] <mitchell> especially cause I want to get 20-300 of these installed in a fleet of bikes
[19:51:38] <mitchell> so waiting and keeping an eye on the libertas-tf driver seems like the best route right now
[19:52:39] <marex> mitchell, the driver won't port to SPI8686 itself
[19:53:14] *** rkdavis has joined #zipit
[19:53:30] <marex> either help them or find some other way to achieve what you want
[19:54:02] <marex> marcelo or linville are working only on usb8388 for libertas-tf
[19:55:20] <mitchell> marex: why is usb8388 a higher priority than SPI8686?
[19:55:48] <marex> mitchell, because it's in XO
[20:00:06] <mitchell> marex: do marcelo and linville have patches to test? what else do you think they could use help with?
[20:00:27] * mitchell is a terrible programmer
[20:00:54] <marex> mitchell, they are open to any patches ... you can send your 8686 patchset
[20:01:39] <mitchell> do they have a project mgt system up?
[20:01:45] <marex> mitchell, noone will do support for SPI8686 just because you want to ... either do it yourself or wait till someone does it (which might not ever happen)
[20:01:53] <marex> mitchell, for what ?
[20:02:00] <mitchell> libertas dev
[20:03:16] <marex> they have #libertas and libertas-dev mailing list
[20:03:56] <mitchell> and some git repos
[20:04:26] <marex> yes ... at git.kernel.org or infradead.org iirc
