[21:12:16] <djbclark> What doc is most up-to-date at the moment? I'm following http://www.openzipit.org/Z2Develop/InstallImage/ at the moment; the build worked after fixing one issue described at http://forum.openwrt.org/viewtopic.php?id=16585 , but now prepSDcard.pl is being flummoxed by the fact that SD cards are now /dev/mmcblkXpX, not /dev/sdXX (which I'm sure I can fix, but guessing theis means it's not what other people
[21:12:17] <djbclark> are using these days)
[21:48:06] <djbclark> So edited that file like http://zipit.pastebin.com/f3821af8e - hd to run, remove and then re-insert card so the new partiution (p2) showed up in /dev, and then run again, but it seems to have worked. On "Please wait: booting..." on Z2 atm...
[21:49:12] *** g1powermac_PB has quit IRC
[21:49:53] <djbclark> (using http://linux.zipitwireless.com/wiki/OpenEmbedded#GettingthelatestOpenEmbeddedImagefortheZipit2 - still on waiting...)
[21:56:47] <djbclark> Now seem to be having the same issue as in http://linux.zipitwireless.com/discussion/1/13
[22:02:26] <djbclark> Trying image referenced from http://linux.zipitwireless.com/discussion/1/8 ...
[22:18:14] <steerpik1> djbclark: oh, i had the same problem
[22:18:28] <djbclark> What solution did you find?
[22:18:29] <steerpik1> djbclark: would you like my version of the sd card installer?
[22:18:53] <djbclark> Sure. Although actually have something booted now, using card created by modified .pl script and someone's random tarball for the ext3 partition.
[22:19:12] * djbclark wonders what distro / architecture people are doingf successful OE/ZipIt2 build from.
[22:19:23] <steerpik1> oh, so you already got that working then?
[22:19:33] <steerpik1> ok, i'm currently using buildroot, but i'm going to get to work on OE soon
[22:19:47] <djbclark> Well "working" is a loose term... I should see if the thing I built works, but probably after sleep.
[22:19:53] <djbclark> but yeah have a root prompt :-)
[22:23:00] <steerpik1> i don't like the drivers on OE very much :\
[22:23:13] <steerpik1> i've used it in the passed, i stopped using it after the toolchain broken for no reason
[22:23:33] <steerpik1> this is the one i used.. http://echelon.net.ru/prepSDcard.txt
[22:23:40] <djbclark> it seems to be fragile. I'm very new to all this - what are you using instead?
[22:23:46] <djbclark> ah thanks, beat me too it :)
[22:23:54] <steerpik1> ^_^
[22:24:08] <steerpik1> i'm currently just using the z2 shell hack
[22:24:25] <steerpik1> and i just copy over the binaries i compile from buildroot
[22:24:35] <steerpik1> this is what i've done so far.. http://echelon.net.ru/z2_shell_v2a.tar.gz
[22:24:47] <djbclark> http://echelon.net.ru/prepSDcard.txt is the same thing that ships with oe looks like
[22:24:48] <steerpik1> i keep forgetting to order a second mini sd card
[22:26:33] <steerpik1> djbclark: yeah, except the device names were changed
[22:26:38] <djbclark> I ordered 2 since they don't seem to be available in local stores :)
[22:26:50] <steerpik1> you can do a diff on it to see what was changed
[22:26:52] <djbclark> cool I;'ll check that out.
[22:27:00] <djbclark> (your image3 that is)
[22:27:32] <steerpik1> the problem is that the prepSDcard script creates seperate partitions, to use mine you'll have to remove all the partitions created
[22:28:41] <steerpik1> from what i've heard from others the wifi drivers provided on OE doesn't support WEP/WPA iirc
[22:29:29] <steerpik1> the shell hack just loads the drivers already on the unit.. that's why i switched back
[22:29:55] <steerpik1> also, OE uses glibc instead of uclibc
[22:33:14] <djbclark> Is one of the keys actually "ctrl" from the command line?
[22:34:02] <steerpik1> ctrl is the "..." key
[22:34:15] <steerpik1> esc is the smiley face
[22:34:42] <djbclark> thx
[22:34:47] <steerpik1> cool.. 2gb minisd for $5.40 on ebay
[22:34:57] <steerpik1> i think 2gb is the most the z2 can handle
[22:36:53] <djbclark> it was like $6 via newegg... yueah I just saw a thread on that, also it has trouble booting off some brands of sd cards due to speed issues.
[22:37:44] <steerpik1> the boot issue happened to me a few times as well, just took it out and put it back in
[22:38:09] <steerpik1> eh, newegg's shipping is too expensive
[22:39:10] <djbclark> yeah it's annoying.
[22:42:26] <steerpik1> alright, now i will have two sd cards to test on.. i wonder if i could do dual boot
[22:42:32] <steerpik1> oh well
[22:43:07] <djbclark> if it's just a shell script that runs to do the chroot, I would think you could have multiple filesystem roots on the same sd card pretty easily.
[22:43:40] <steerpik1> yeah, that's what i was thinking
[22:44:02] <djbclark> are you also seeing really sensitive key repeat?
[22:49:50] <steerpik1> yeah, it depends on how hard you press the keys
[22:49:57] <steerpik1> you get used to it a little after a while
[22:52:07] <steerpik1> if you use the OE image, you can set the repeat rate with kbd_mode
[22:52:35] <steerpik1> i can't say i've seen a significant change using it, i just accustomed my key presses
[22:53:52] <djbclark> I'm using the matchbox x-terminal-emulator at the moment and haven't seen it there yet.
[22:54:38] <steerpik1> i think it's part of the console-tools package
[23:33:04] <djbclark> steerpik1: with your image I get "Error for wireless request "Set ESSID" (8B1A) : SET failed on device eth0 ; Connection refused." - this is both before and after "ifconfig eth0 down".
[23:34:17] <steerpik1> djbclark: oops, did you change the wpa_supplicant.conf file?
[23:34:35] <djbclark> steerpik1: yes; oh, there's a wpa_cli or something you are supposed to use with wpa, right? perhaps I'm just doing it wrong...
[23:34:56] <steerpik1> djbclark: it's actually just using the original wpa_supplicant on the z2
[23:36:50] <djbclark> what's the command you use to connect?
[23:37:14] <steerpik1> djbclark: did you check if the card is associated though?
[23:37:21] <steerpik1> run `iwconfig eth0`
[23:37:33] <steerpik1> if it shows the mac address next to "Access Point", then it worked
[23:39:03] <djbclark> yeah it didn't. could just have wpa options wrong... I'll try getting it working from a laptop first.
[23:39:11] <steerpik1> kk
[23:41:40] <steerpik1> i've been planning on writing a console interface like wpa_cli
[23:41:48] <steerpik1> never got around to it :(
[23:42:03] <steerpik1> i use wpa_gui on the laptop
[23:52:15] <djbclark> hmm so the problem there was just that the syntax in the file was for WPA2 and I have WPA-PSK; next, try to find out what the dhcp client daemon is called...
[23:53:49] <djbclark> ah udhcpc
[23:54:27] <djbclark> SWEET! ssh-ed into the zipit z2... thanks steerpik1 ! :-)
[23:54:46] <steerpik1> ^_^
[23:57:43] <steerpik1> even if you connect to a open ap, you should use wpa_supplicant
[23:57:48] <steerpik1> because it keeps the signal stabilized
[23:59:03] <steerpik1> rather, it reassociates automatically
