[13:36:51] <rkdavis> hi steerpike
[13:37:08] <rkdavis> zipit is on the truck but not to be delivered until next business day so monday :(
[13:42:49] <steerpike> :\
[13:42:51] <steerpike> hate it when they do that
[13:42:56] <steerpike> usps or ups?
[13:43:05] <rkdavis> fedex
[13:43:46] <steerpike> ah
[13:43:54] <rkdavis> setup a vmware ubuntu image to give scratchbox and buildroot a go -- still not workign properly but getting there although vmplayer screwed up my network connection with it's drivers
[13:44:22] <rkdavis> but looks like with amd's hardware virtulisation turned on and vmware i have to put vdso=0 on the kernel line for scratchbox
[13:44:40] <steerpike> if a dev environment doesn't work natively on the o/s i just don't use it..
[13:44:51] <rkdavis> i'm stuck in windows on my laptop
[13:44:56] <steerpike> i never go through the hassle of installing a second one
[13:45:01] <rkdavis> it's a crippled bios hp one
[13:47:15] <rkdavis> and it's the laptop the kid uses for college work so i can't wipe it until he is finished with this semester
[13:47:27] <steerpike> ah
[13:47:27] <steerpike> hehe
[13:47:42] <steerpike> get 'em one of those netbooks
[13:47:45] <rkdavis> i'll try to get to the spare computer by monday but we moved in july and still not unpacked so it's in the spare room under 3 tons of other computer stuff and clothes
[13:48:02] <rkdavis> hopefully when we go upstate for christmas his cousin will give him his old one
[13:48:09] <steerpike> tsk
[13:48:13] <rkdavis> they said they were going to but we never got up there in the summer
[13:48:22] <rkdavis> hey we loved in the old place for 4 years and didn't unpack
[13:48:23] <steerpike> we moved 3yrs ago, and i still have some stuff unpacked
[13:48:25] <rkdavis> s/loved/lived
[13:48:33] <steerpike> yeah
[13:48:34] <steerpike> hehe
[13:48:37] <rkdavis> i still have 3 boxes that i haven't unpacked from being shipped to me from my home in the uk (i'm a brit)
[13:48:42] <rkdavis> and that was in 1991
[13:49:12] <steerpike> i had a 100ft ethernet cable boxed in the basement, and i just ordered another one
[13:49:22] <rkdavis> heh
[13:49:25] <steerpike> spiders seem to like boxes :\
[13:49:27] <rkdavis> going to leech internet from a neighbour?
[13:49:42] <rkdavis> excuseme while i plug this cable into your router and thread it through your window
[13:49:49] <steerpike> nah, i've got my own wifi
[13:49:50] <steerpike> hehe
[13:52:31] <steerpike> i've got all my neighbor's wep keys
[13:52:42] <rkdavis> i've got half of them
[13:52:43] <steerpike> i can never get into close enough range to break wpa
[13:53:12] <rkdavis> oh well
[13:53:28] <steerpike> you use voip?
[13:53:32] <rkdavis> easiest way is to just get access totheir computer for a couple of mins and use one of the nirsoft utilities
[13:53:48] <rkdavis> yes althoiugh all my phones are still packed
[13:53:48] <rkdavis> got a couple of grandstreams
[13:53:54] <rkdavis> and a few v-phones i've hacked on
[13:54:20] <rkdavis> use soem softphones too but i was more into it before i got sick in 2006
[13:54:24] <steerpike> i already have two linksys voip adapters that i unlocked, but they're just not registering :\
[13:54:28] <rkdavis> :(
[13:54:30] <rkdavis> sure they are unlocked?
[13:54:33] <steerpike> i wanted to get a grandstream initially but everyone kept telling me how much better the linksys are
[13:54:36] <rkdavis> and what models
[13:54:38] <steerpike> yeah
[13:54:44] <steerpike> i change the sip settings and everything
[13:54:48] <steerpike> a wrtp54gv2 and a pap2v2
[13:54:51] <rkdavis> grandstream or pretty plastic but the bt100's were great for cheap phones and they updated the firmware regulatrly
[13:54:55] <rkdavis> ok
[13:54:59] <steerpike> i have some friends hacking away at the wrtp54gv2 in #wrtp54g
[13:57:18] <steerpike> they say they can get asterisk running on it
[13:57:21] <rkdavis> yup
[13:57:24] <steerpike> well, it has enough space for it
[13:57:26] <rkdavis> probably using openwrt
[13:57:28] <rkdavis> or dd-wrt
[13:57:45] <steerpike> i think i might get a grandstream ht-286 now
[13:57:47] <steerpike> found one on ebay for $30
[13:57:47] <rkdavis> the pap though -- what service are you trying to regiaster with
[13:57:54] <rkdavis> yes the 286 was ok
[13:57:59] <steerpike> magicjack ^_^
[13:58:38] <rkdavis> hmmm magicjack uses sip?
[13:58:59] <rkdavis> oh it does
[13:58:59] <steerpike> yup, i recovered the sip credentials from a memory dump
[13:59:14] <rkdavis> using fiddler?
[13:59:20] <steerpike> i tested it a couple of softphones and it works fine
[13:59:38] <steerpike> nah, fiddler doesn't work anymore
[13:59:43] <steerpike> it only does packet sniffing
[13:59:47] <rkdavis> ok i would suggest you test the sip using a free voip service like fwd
[13:59:48] <steerpike> you need to use pmdump
[13:59:57] <rkdavis> create a 30 day account (free) on fwd
[14:00:00] <steerpike> yeah, i'm going to try that today
[14:02:02] <rkdavis> and use that to test that it is working
[14:02:20] <steerpike> i have a sipphone.com account as well
[14:02:25] <rkdavis> ok
[14:03:06] <steerpike> problem is that i always get "Proceeding" under "Registration Status"
[14:03:14] <steerpike> from what i've read this because of port forwarding issues
[14:03:47] <rkdavis> yes that could be
[14:03:57] <rkdavis> for testing i normally put the device in dmz
[14:04:13] <steerpike> but it shouldn't happen on the wrtp54g though, because the router and the voip adapter are in the same unit
[14:06:59] *** CIA-47 has quit IRC
[14:07:18] <steerpike> anyway, i'm using the magicjack usb dongle for skype now heh
[14:07:22] <steerpike> it's recognized on linux
[14:08:06] <rkdavis> yup
[14:08:34] <rkdavis> i would probably try using a softphone for testing your id/passwd and also for port forwarding
[14:08:45] <rkdavis> your setup is device in front of your router or behind it?
[14:09:21] <steerpike> wan -> router -> voip
[14:09:27] <rkdavis> ok
[14:09:31] <rkdavis> so using stun?
[14:09:55] <steerpike> there's no stun setting
[14:12:26] <rkdavis> the pap doesn't have a stun field?
[14:12:58] <steerpike> nope
[14:13:14] <rkdavis> ok so you'll probably need the use a sip proxy
[14:14:10] <rkdavis> i.e. for fwd i had to use the sip domain fwd.pulver.com for sip id/password but also the sip proxy to fwdnat.pulver.com:5082 so it could register
[14:14:56] <steerpike> i'm going to try it when i get home
[14:14:59] <rkdavis> ok
[14:16:59] <rkdavis> if you still have problems i'll be able to sit down and really help you on monday
[14:17:01] <rkdavis> or after
[14:17:14] <rkdavis> but weekends wife doesn't like me doing much on the computers
[14:17:24] <rkdavis> or spending time rewiring things :)
[14:17:24] <steerpike> cool, thanks :)
[14:17:34] <steerpike> hehe, alright
[14:17:43] <rkdavis> it's most likely portforwarding and nat problems
[14:17:54] <steerpike> tsk, just got outbid on a dvb-s2 receiver
[14:18:06] <rkdavis> :(
[14:18:26] <rkdavis> just have to go round and use a baseball bat to explain the facts of life to them
[14:19:26] <steerpike> lol?
[14:23:30] <rkdavis> can't have people out bidding you
[14:23:44] <rkdavis> and its hard to press to type with broken fingers
[14:24:41] <steerpike> hehe, ok
[14:26:55] <rkdavis> need to start planning my christmas tv watching
[14:27:00] <steerpike> i still have a bid for a directv dish for $1.00
[14:27:09] <rkdavis> :)
[14:27:23] <rkdavis> too many good things on the bbc this year and i only have 80gig left on my media hd
[14:27:58] <steerpike> have you come across these units.. http://tinyurl.com/5kugdr ?
[14:28:15] <rkdavis> nope
[14:28:28] <rkdavis> but i don't do satelilite tv :)
[14:28:48] <steerpike> pretty reasonable price, but i don't know if it's supported under linux or progdvb
[14:28:48] <steerpike> ah
[14:28:50] <steerpike> i have cable too, but i'm cancelling it this monday
[14:28:59] <steerpike> they charge too much
[14:29:13] <rkdavis> yeah but in NYS they have a damn monopoly
[14:29:26] <rkdavis> we are in a time warner area and 6 blocks away it's cable vision
[14:29:26] <steerpike> yeah, i'm in ny too
[14:29:29] <rkdavis> and we live in an area where fios won't come until 2012
[14:29:37] <steerpike> starts out as $100/mo, then it's $150
[14:29:40] <rkdavis> and the phone lines are too bad and not near enough for dsl
[14:29:42] <steerpike> cablevision :\
[14:29:59] <rkdavis> we have 2 boxes, and cable plus allt eh premium channels for about 170/month
[14:31:52] <steerpike> yeah, i currently have both verizon dsl and optimum online
[14:32:10] <rkdavis> the last tv for pc thing i bought was at radioshack
[14:32:23] <rkdavis> they had the hvr950 for 50 bucks and it works for what i want it for
[14:32:48] <rkdavis> using it to use my laptop (or desktop) as a monitor for home computers from the 1980s
[14:32:48] <steerpike> oh the hauppages work good under mythtv
[14:32:50] <rkdavis> i.e. plug in my timex 1000, commie 64's etc on
[14:32:58] <steerpike> dvb-t?
[14:33:06] <steerpike> hehe
[14:33:12] <rkdavis> it's the usb dongle thing for ota hdtv
[14:33:29] <steerpike> yeah
[14:33:40] <rkdavis> i discovered that as it's mostly s/w it will also decode PAL so on a fast computer i cna use it for my UK home computers too
[14:33:48] <steerpike> you just plug in your cable's coaxial cable into it?
[14:33:59] <rkdavis> i could
[14:34:07] <steerpike> or does it have a port for over the air terrestrial tv?
[14:34:08] <rkdavis> it'll decode the basic channels but not the encrypted ones
[14:34:18] <rkdavis> it's a coax connector for ariel or from cable box
[14:34:33] <steerpike> oh
[14:34:58] <steerpike> so after i cancel my cable, i'm considering on getting a dreambox tv box that lets you use softcam keys to steal satellite
[14:38:13] <steerpike> i wonder if it'll include the premium channels as well
[14:38:36] <rkdavis> :")
[14:38:36] <rkdavis> :) even
[14:39:10] <steerpike> you get 5yrs in prison if you get caught.. i wonder how they actually catch people?
[14:39:19] <rkdavis> snitches
[14:39:44] <steerpike> yeah, people don't know how to keep their mouth shut
[14:39:48] * rkdavis makes note to himself to see how much the reward is and to get hold of steerpikes address
[14:39:48] <rkdavis> :)
[14:42:36] <steerpike> ^_^
[14:43:39] <rkdavis> ugh wifi is playing silly buggers
[14:47:10] <rkdavis> bbiab
