<echelon> |
you guys seen this.. http://blog.wired.com/gadgets/2008/10/imovios-ikit-te.html ? |
| [14:07:21] |
<echelon> |
uses the same processor as the zipit |
| [14:07:24] |
<echelon> |
around $130 |
| [14:07:28] |
<echelon> |
more space |
| [14:07:38] |
<echelon> |
http://www.comsciences.com/specifications.htm |
| [14:07:53] |
<echelon> |
it even vibrates |
| [14:07:56] |
<echelon> |
and has bluetooth |
| [14:08:05] |
<jhaluska> |
echelon: Yes, that was posted here yesterday. |
| [14:08:17] |
<jhaluska> |
I think it is cool. |
| [14:08:38] |
<jhaluska> |
I think it looks a little more like my Thinkpad too |
| [14:08:41] |
<jhaluska> |
I wonder if their keyboard is better. |
| [14:08:47] |
<jhaluska> |
oh well I want to get my Z2 working, cause I paid for it. |
| [14:08:57] |
<echelon> |
i only paid $8 ^_^ |
| [14:09:00] |
<jhaluska> |
how? |
| [14:09:07] |
<echelon> |
http://blog.wired.com/gadgets/iKIT.jpg |
| [14:09:10] |
<echelon> |
jhaluska: using amazon card |
| [14:09:15] |
<jhaluska> |
oh thats cheating I think |
| [14:09:18] |
<echelon> |
brand new in shrink wrap |
| [14:09:18] |
<echelon> |
lol |
| [14:09:28] |
<jhaluska> |
I didn't think it would be worth the hit on my credit |
| [14:09:55] |
<echelon> |
when the heck are they going to start selling the micropohones |
| [14:15:20] |
<jhaluska> |
echelon: I bet they're still working on the software. |
| [14:15:34] |
<echelon> |
they probably just gave up on z2 altogether |
| [14:15:36] |
<echelon> |
and started work on a z3 |
| [14:15:59] |
<echelon> |
after all, they did go back on their word that it would be a fee-free service |
| [14:16:11] |
<jhaluska> |
yeah |
| [14:16:12] |
<echelon> |
but i don't have a problem with that since they made the zipits cheaper that way ^_^ |
| [14:16:27] |
<jhaluska> |
yeah, but I would prefer to work with the company than sort of reinvent the wheel |
| [14:16:28] |
<jhaluska> |
Seems like a waste of resources |
| [14:17:00] |
<echelon> |
i don't think they would be encouraged to help us build a system that would bypass their subscription-based service |
| [14:17:13] |
<jhaluska> |
Exactly |
| [14:17:24] |
<jhaluska> |
Yeah and if everybody buys them and then hacks them, the company goes under. |
| [14:17:29] |
<echelon> |
heh |
| [14:17:46] |
<echelon> |
they could start by selling the necessary peripherals :P |
| [14:17:51] |
<echelon> |
to stay above water |
| [14:18:04] |
<jhaluska> |
What they should do is what Chumby did |
| [14:18:06] |
<jhaluska> |
Open source the design |
| [14:18:13] |
<jhaluska> |
Then do some ad supported devices |
| [14:18:14] |
<jhaluska> |
err services |
| [14:18:25] |
<jhaluska> |
Oh and basically sell the hardware at cost |
| [14:18:37] |
<echelon> |
yeah |
| [14:18:47] |
<echelon> |
but the cost itself is a deterrent for some |
| [14:19:28] |
<jhaluska> |
yep |
| [14:19:31] |
<jhaluska> |
But I think it will take off |
| [14:19:33] |
<jhaluska> |
I mean I really didn't use a PDA |
| [14:19:36] |
<jhaluska> |
I need something with a small keyboard |
| [14:26:39] |
<echelon> |
i never bought a pda |
| [14:26:48] |
<jhaluska> |
I used it to keep track of gas mileage till I accidently erased it. |
| [14:26:52] |
<jhaluska> |
I thought it was a lousy design that if you lost the battery you lost all the data. |
| [14:26:56] |
<echelon> |
heh |

<echelon> |
hey GPSFan |
| [19:25:38] |
<GPSFan> |
echelon: howdy |
| [19:26:19] |
<echelon> |
have you used scratchbox yet? |
| [19:26:57] |
<echelon> |
it seems they want you to use debian/ubuntu :( |
| [19:28:09] |
<echelon> |
i think i'll just use buildroot |
| [19:28:13] |
<echelon> |
..as soon as i figure out how to use it |
| [19:28:20] |
<GPSFan> |
echelon: no, when I have needed a libc based system I have used crosstool to build cross compilers, then built the required packages by hand. It wasn't a very sophisticated system, no GUI other than ncurses. but it worked and made reliable code. |
| [19:28:28] |
<GPSFan> |
I use buildroot for uclibc based systems. |
| [19:28:47] |
<echelon> |
i think i'll stick with the z2shell since the driver is a lot more reliable with the stock kernel |
| [19:29:43] |
<GPSFan> |
yeah, the wireless driver that comes with the z2 isn't bad, hopefully the libertas folks will have the GSPI driver working soon. there has been some progress during the last month, then we will be able to replace the kernel with a newer version, or with the addition of kexec. |
| [19:36:57] |
<GPSFan> |
maybe I'll even get some time to work on z2 stuff again once winter sets in. |
| [19:37:01] |
<echelon> |
:) |
| [20:16:20] |
<_switchcat_> |
I havent had great luck connecting anywhere other than home with my z2. :( |
| [20:23:54] |
<echelon> |
_switchcat_: aren't you using z2shell hack? |

Well, I initially was using the z2 itself no hack... and had problems connecting anywhere but home |
| [22:37:06] |
<_switchcat_> |
I installed the hack but hadn't yet customized the network script so I havent gotten it working yet, and I left my charger elsewhere |
| [22:58:25] |
<echelon> |
the vi packaged with the z2shell hack needs to be reconfigured :\ |
| [23:06:38] |
<_switchcat_> |
yes, I agree |
| [23:06:41] |
<_switchcat_> |
it should be reconfigued into emacs. :P |
| [23:09:22] |
<echelon> |
lol |
| [23:09:23] |
<echelon> |
whateva |
| [23:19:58] |
<_switchcat_> |
actually I use pico the most these days |
| [23:25:13] |
<_switchcat_> |
but as far as an editor for the z2, it should probably be something that uses less keystrokes |
| [23:25:17] |
<_switchcat_> |
and is slim |
| [23:25:19] |
<_switchcat_> |
maybe soemthing like joe |
