[10:37:37] <echelon> GPSFan: from what version of wireless-tools did you say you got the iwlib from again?
[10:38:09] <GPSFan> echelon: IIRC .29
[10:38:11] <echelon> thanks :)
[10:39:21] <echelon> also, for anyone else.. openembedded is switching from monotone to git
[10:39:31] <echelon> you can still use monotone, but the Makefile will fail
[10:39:59] <echelon> mtn --db=OE.mtn checkout --branch=org.openembedded.dev -r4a

[16:17:32] <Foxx> i just want to toss an idea out here
[16:17:42] <Foxx> ive been playing with QRCodes lately (Wiki Quick Read Codes for more info)
[16:18:10] <Foxx> there are java/midp/j2me applets that let you use your phone as a QRCode reader
[16:18:23] <Foxx> me and my friend have been "Glyph Tagging" stuff with QR Code stickers
[16:18:34] <Foxx> the Z2 has a camera hookup, and i think echelon was talking about adding java support
[16:18:40] <Foxx> not very practical, but none the less kinda cool to have
[16:18:44] <Foxx> a Z2 QR code reader
[16:26:25] <jhaluska> Do it man1
[16:26:26] <jhaluska> !
[16:27:38] <Foxx> i dont know enough to do it myself
[16:27:45] <Foxx> i can help
[16:27:47] <Foxx> but not do it on my own
[16:27:52] <Foxx> i cant code
[16:27:56] <Foxx> i can do hardware, but im still learning the software side
[16:28:16] <Foxx> me and my friends are doing a segment on Glyph Tagging soon
[16:28:31] <Foxx> basicaly you just make QR code stickers that have encoded text and put them someplace
[16:28:41] <Foxx> i have a few that say "Open WiFi here"
[16:28:56] <Foxx> i put up one near the local fast food place that says "Mc Donalds Food and wifi is horrible, Find something else"
[16:28:59] <Foxx> because it reallt is...
[16:29:25] <mycroftxxx> Nice use of QR stickers!
[16:29:39] * Foxx shrugs
[16:29:46] <Foxx> its a use
[16:29:50] <Foxx> usefull use
[16:35:22] <Foxx> im gonna make some buisness cards for my show soon, and include a QR code on it with a hyperlink to the site
[16:35:26] <Foxx> scan the card, go right to the site
[16:35:29] <Foxx> get this
[16:35:34] <Foxx> the UPS tracking depot uses QR Codes
[16:35:39] <Foxx> it scans the code and inserts it into a database for tracking and routing
[16:35:42] <jhaluska> That's a shame, hardware is more useful than software.
[16:35:44] <Foxx> what if that QR code said, oh, idont know... Drop_Tables
[16:35:51] <jhaluska> Drop Tables sounds bad to me.
[16:35:53] <Foxx> lol
[16:35:59] <Foxx> wipe their SQL database
[16:36:01] <jhaluska> yeah
[16:36:05] <Foxx> i wouldnt try it out of morals
[16:36:11] <Foxx> but still, thats so obscure...
[16:36:13] <Foxx> nobody would have thought to do that
[16:36:22] <Foxx> actually, i think UPS uses DataMatrix
[16:36:24] <Foxx> either way
[16:36:24] <Foxx> same idea
[16:36:24] <jhaluska> That sounds neat
[16:36:38] <Foxx> im really into 'looking beyond what the eyes can see'
[16:37:04] <Foxx> which is why im into radio and electronics
[16:37:13] <Foxx> and software, since hardware needs software to rum
[16:37:39] <jhaluska> My hardware side needs more improving
[16:37:45] <Foxx> my software side needs impriving
[16:37:46] <Foxx> but you knwo what?
[16:37:48] <Foxx> thats why we need community
[16:37:50] <mycroftxxx> I think we would need access to a lot of proprietary z2 stuffto get the camera worjking, or a hero-level hardware hacker.
[16:37:59] <Foxx> work together to make things happen, instead fo compete for 'scene cred'
[16:38:01] <mycroftxxx> Anyone have blackmail on Coderman or Morceeba?
[16:38:16] <Foxx> i dont think the camera would be too hard
[16:38:20] <Foxx> the zipit linux page has the connector pinouts
[16:38:25] <Foxx> its a matter of proper hardware and drivers
[16:38:57] <mycroftxxx> I'll be happy getting a keymouse working under kdrive, or sound.
[16:39:10] <Foxx> Codeman said he might be able to get the pins next to the headphone jack working as serial
[16:39:11] <Foxx> so...
[16:39:17] <Foxx> that may mean i could make a serial touchpad interface
[16:39:23] <mycroftxxx> what are those pins meant for, anyway?
[16:39:24] <Foxx> i have some synaptic touchpads here that can do PS/2 and Serial
[16:39:33] <Foxx> our assumptins tell us key iputs for media control
[16:39:35] <mycroftxxx> Got any old palm pilots?
[16:39:36] <Foxx> Play, Pause, Next, Previous, etc
[16:39:46] <Foxx> hell, synaptic will send free samples of select touchpads
[16:39:46] <Foxx> or!
[16:39:53] <Foxx> with proper drivers, a thumbstick can be made
[16:44:38] <Foxx> scrap an old game controller for a thumbstick
[16:44:41] <mycroftxxx> *chuckle* Yes, the same drivers that would let us use the D-pad for a mouse.
[16:44:51] <Foxx> this would be analog
[16:44:56] <Foxx> i hate d-pad inputs
[16:45:27] <Foxx> unless someone could find an inexpensive serial touchscreen...
[16:45:28] <mycroftxxx> Gotcha
[16:45:34] <mycroftxxx> There are 4-wire touchscreens out there for pretty cheap.
[16:45:35] <Foxx> wonder if the NDS touchscreen could fit over the Z2
[16:45:37] * Foxx gets up to measure
[16:46:18] <Foxx> it might
[16:46:23] <Foxx> the NDS uses a 4 wire touchscreen
[16:46:27] <Foxx> they are also pretty cheap off ebay
[16:46:29] <Foxx> $15-20
[16:46:39] <Foxx> that would be a slick hack
[16:46:44] <Foxx> NDS touchscreen for the Z2
[16:47:06] <Foxx> ill bbl, my g/f is calling me
[16:47:26] <mycroftxxx> Now we need a cheap 4-wire resistive controller chip that we can solder to the serial ports in the z2 AND has drivers under linux or acts like a serial mouse
[16:49:24] *** drmikecrowe has joined #zipit
[16:57:53] <c0deman> ti TSC2004 4 wire touch chip with i2c interface
[16:58:06] <c0deman> mod this driver http://www.nabble.com/tsc2003-userspace-driver-td18834088.html
[17:09:38] *** drmikecrowe has quit IRC
[17:15:19] <mycroftxxx> c0deman - are/were you active on the linux-hacker.net forums?
[17:17:39] *** jhaluska has quit IRC
[17:27:00] <c0deman> yes
[17:27:11] <c0deman> linux-hacker.net is my site
[17:35:26] <Limp_Trizkit> hey, this is going to be a bit of a crappy question
[17:35:32] <Limp_Trizkit> but has anyone compiled OE for their zipits?
[17:35:52] <Limp_Trizkit> i need an ipkg for wpa_supplicant; through a series of events, the OE stuff I have at home is unavailable and i don't have the resources to recompile it
[17:35:54] <Limp_Trizkit> here
[17:46:19] <mycroftxxx> I am away from my devbox as well. Sorry.
[17:47:23] <mycroftxxx> C0deman, is there a non surfacemount version of the chip? I didn't see one.
[17:47:37] <c0deman> mycroftxx: probally not
[17:49:24] <mycroftxxx> Yay! Who wants to tell TomW he has a new business plan?
[17:55:22] <mycroftxxx> In the meantime - question for the group. mousekeys does not work under kdrive. Does anyone know if joymouse can be made to work? If so, can a kludge be coded up that gives the d-pad mouse functionality by passing the button-presses over that way?
[17:55:30] <c0deman> has anyone figured out where pins 37-40 on the doc connector goto ?? the site says ground but they are not ..
[17:59:13] <mycroftxxx> I know what I wish they did. NTSC video out! $50 zipit + $25 dolloar Spy Gear HUD = $75 wearable computer!
[18:05:40] <Foxx> i have one of those spycars
[18:05:42] <Foxx> the HUD isnt that great
[18:06:00] <Foxx> its nice, but i wouldnt use it for computing
[18:07:13] <mycroftxxx> It would require some rethinking of the user interface, to be sure. It wouldn't work for a classic desktop, I know.
[18:07:39] <Foxx> ive dabbled in wearable computing a bit
[18:07:46] <Foxx> a monocle display is generally a bad idea
[18:07:50] <Foxx> it causes vertigo, nauzia, and hedaches
[18:07:59] <mycroftxxx> It would be good for flashing alerts and displaying small pieces of text RSVP reader-style.
[18:08:27] <mycroftxxx> What about eye-link communicator style, where it sits at the edge of vision?
[18:08:36] <Foxx> ive given up on any kind of HUD for now
[18:08:43] <Foxx> except for my video scanner
[18:08:50] <Foxx> but only because most of my LCDs draw too much power
[18:09:38] * mycroftxxx nods
[18:14:27] <mycroftxxx> I have a pair of eye-links, and a spycar HUD. Eventual craziness involves mounting the hud in the eyelink headset. I think a non-frontal HUD should work for most thing. I want the info close and private, not interposed.
