[19:14:41] <echelon> well.. my zipit's in nj now
[19:15:32] <echelon> doubt i'll get it by tomorrow since it's sunday -_-
[19:57:26] <Foxx> isnt today saturday/
[19:57:27] <Foxx> ?
[20:03:07] <g1powermac> not in NJ, its on a whole different time ;-)
[20:03:14] * g1powermac knows, he grew up there ;-)
[20:06:11] <Foxx> whats going on g1?
[20:06:25] <g1powermac> nothin much
[20:07:54] * g1powermac has come across an insanely weird bug in the PMU drivers for the old m68k powerbooks in the most recent kernels
[20:08:29] <g1powermac> the powerbook will just suddenly shut off during boot
[20:09:05] <g1powermac> now, if you set a boot message delay that gives a pause after each message the kernel displays it doesn't shutoff
[20:09:15] <Foxx> thats weird
[20:09:16] <g1powermac> but at least you get to see error messages
[20:09:47] <g1powermac> its the strangest behavior I've ever seen
[20:12:24] <Foxx> yeah
[20:13:15] <g1powermac> I'm uploading a video clip of the boot messages so some of the guru m68k kernel devs can see it
[20:13:40] <g1powermac> I wish I could get a good shot of it without the delay so you can see the message right before it shuts off
[20:13:58] <g1powermac> but because the lcd is so old, the streaming text is a big blur
[20:14:00] <Foxx> what are you using to capture the video?
[20:14:08] <g1powermac> my canon gl2 :-)
[20:14:09] <Foxx> ... camera held up to the LCD?
[20:14:18] <g1powermac> pretty much
[20:14:22] <Foxx> ick
[20:14:30] <g1powermac> though I used a tripod
[20:14:56] <Foxx> no VGA out?
[20:14:57] <g1powermac> and adjusted the frame rate to get rid of any flicker
[20:14:59] <Foxx> or composite?
[20:15:01] <g1powermac> nope
[20:15:25] <g1powermac> if there was, I would have used it
[20:15:29] <Foxx> good man
[20:15:37] <Foxx> i hate people that think their camcorder is a VCR
[20:15:44] <Foxx> or a capture box
[20:15:52] <g1powermac> there's an external monitor hookup on it, however it doesn't drive the mac monitor I got
[20:16:09] <g1powermac> it prolly needs to be initialized during the boot
[20:16:20] <g1powermac> it doesn't default to mirroring I guess
[20:16:23] <Foxx> i did a Pocket PC segment a few years back and the only way to do it was hold the cam up to the screen
[20:16:33] <Foxx> but i was able to output it to a 19" VGA LCD
[20:16:39] <Foxx> it came out pretty good
[20:16:40] <g1powermac> thats nice
[20:16:53] <Foxx> i turned off the lights, aligned it
[20:16:53] <g1powermac> I wish I could have outputted to the mac monitor I got, it would've been really nice
[20:17:01] <Foxx> but now we have capture software for PPC
[20:18:19] <Foxx> i so a lot of Wii hacking, and all the scene whoes have to make youtube videos of the hacks and mods
[20:18:28] <g1powermac> these old LCDs are hard to read to begin with. . .
[20:18:37] <Foxx> some of them think their cell phone is a good means of recording "awesome haxx"
[20:18:46] <g1powermac> ugh
[20:18:51] <g1powermac> I hate cell phone crap
[20:18:52] <Foxx> is it DSTN or Plasma gas?
[20:19:07] <g1powermac> hah, I'm not even sure. . .lemme look that up
[20:19:36] <g1powermac> 8bit passive matrix
[20:20:00] <Foxx> good ol dual-scan supertwist nematic
[20:20:25] <Foxx> i hated those
[20:20:43] <Foxx> i have an internet appliance with one
[20:20:52] <g1powermac> yea
[20:21:02] <Foxx> dmsg is impossible to read as it flies by
[20:21:09] <g1powermac> exactly
[20:21:21] <Foxx> not to mention it had this crappy foggy gel-capasitive touchscreen
[20:21:41] <g1powermac> euh, luckily the screen itself isn't foggy on this powerbook
[20:24:11] <g1powermac> hmm, should've angled the screen a bit more to get rid of more of the distortions from the lcd
[20:24:16] <g1powermac> oh well, its still readable
[20:24:25] <Foxx> thats all that matters
[20:24:37] <Foxx> after seeing your setup im confident in your ability to record a video
[20:24:49] <Foxx> its not hard, but not too many people care to learn what NOT to do
[20:26:09] <g1powermac> meh, of course if google video gave better output. . . http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-5470118290135789807&hl=en
[20:26:12] <Foxx> i think one of the more crappy videos i had to make was a screencast from my dreamcast
[20:26:20] <Foxx> mainly due to the lack of a dreamcast S-video cable
[20:26:31] <Foxx> so scanline interpolation and dot-crawl was apparent
[20:26:47] <g1powermac> I'm going to have to find a better video site
[20:26:54] <Foxx> want me to host it?
[20:27:01] <g1powermac> my original is completely readable, it ain't readable on google video
[20:27:14] <Foxx> whats the final format and size?
[20:27:36] <g1powermac> I'd rather not, so I don't kill your bandwidth as it will be posted on a linux dev mailing list :-)
[20:27:38] <Foxx> an 800k xvid is decent quality
[20:27:45] <Foxx> i have unlimted
[20:28:02] <Foxx> as long as its not an insane size
[20:28:09] <Foxx> BSoD episodes are ~400MB each
[20:28:20] <Foxx> ipod bersions are ~700MB
[20:28:23] <Foxx> versions*
[20:29:03] <Foxx> i can even do a streaming version as well as a downloadable copy, if you like
[20:29:36] <g1powermac> lemme see what I can first in free hosting service like google video
[20:29:44] <g1powermac> I know there's an hd one out there
[20:29:54] <Foxx> check your PM
[21:18:56] *** g1powermac_PB has joined #zipit

[23:51:12] <echelon> the zipit to only takes minisd, right?
[23:52:06] <echelon> wtf.. only $1 shipping from overstock.com?
[23:54:23] <echelon> lol.. Foxx, your video is the 3rd result when you google: zipit z2
