just looking at the Home Depot site and considering ripping out all the copper water supply in my new home and replacing it with PEX tubing. |

it tells me "error for wireless request "set essid"" "set failed on device eth0 ; Connection refused" |
| [12:56:44] |

why replace it with plastic? |

water is somewhat acidic and corrodes the copper lines |

'morning folks |

<crazymonkeypants> |
Dr Mike - I'm assuming you're reading your logs... thanks for putting up the stuff you have on the wiki. |
| [13:31:21] |
<crazymonkeypants> |
I've been looking at the blob sources and wondering about a few things |
| [13:31:40] |
<crazymonkeypants> |
In particular, there are a number of "Z2" files kicking around in the tree that don't appear to actually get built |
| [13:32:10] |
<crazymonkeypants> |
This leads to some confusion over e.g. which serial port (ST vs. FF) blob uses for its console |
| [13:32:48] |
<crazymonkeypants> |
There's also no sign of the P33 flash config in those sources, but the shiny new Z2 I picked up is definitely using an 8MiB part |
| [13:33:30] |
<T0mW> |
jhaluska: no, had owned one years ago but have been renting for a long time now. |

<crazymonkeypants> |
I'm assuming the serial port must be exposed somewhere, as the only disaster recovery path looks to be xmodem download. |
| [13:35:53] |
<T0mW> |
crazymonkeypants: there is no disaster recovery. No serial ports available. |
| [13:36:30] |
<T0mW> |
crazymonkeypants: someone buzzed out where the JTAG lines should be on the PCB, I don't know how accurate that information might be, it should accurate. |
| [13:36:47] |
<crazymonkeypants> |
That'd be a start; is the info around somewhere? |
| [13:37:17] |
<T0mW> |
crazymonkeypants: however, that was done on a version 0 board. I don't know how relevant the information would be to the version 1 board (current version). |
| [13:37:20] |
<crazymonkeypants> |

<g1powermac_PB> |

<GPSFan> |
crazymonkeypants: the z2 uses the STUART for it's console, at 115k n81. I have mine set up and I can download kernels and rootfs's through it just fine. I have not been able to build a replacement blob from the supplied sources. I can compile it ok, and load it via the serial port, but it doesn't run. I have traced through the code and found that it successfully gets all the way through the assembly portions and dies in the early stages of main.c |
| [14:02:54] |
<jhaluska> |
Anybody using a 4gb SDHC card? |
| [14:03:53] |
<GPSFan> |
the pxa270 needs both nTRST and nSRST to properly halt the processor, I don't have nSRST hooked up to anything, and cannot halt the processor. I am using the flyswatter jtag interface and it reads out the processor id correctly. |
| [14:04:07] |
<crazymonkeypants> |
g1: thanks for the link, I can confirm that the pads on the Z2 board are in fact not masked |

| [14:04:36] |
<GPSFan> |
the STUART is ttyS2 and if set up in inittab I can log in over it. |
| [14:04:42] |
<crazymonkeypants> |
Is SRST run directly off the reset button? |
| [14:05:53] |
<GPSFan> |
the z2's reset goes through the Ti power control chip. HOT_RESET is tied directly to the push button |

I think the Ti chip is set up to shut off all but VRTC when it gets a HOT_RESET |
| [14:07:08] |
<crazymonkeypants> |
Nifty. When you built blob, did it bring in the stuff in src/blob/xlli/mainstone/z2.s or z2.inc? |
| [14:07:22] |
<GPSFan> |
the jtag pins that art pulled up seem to be pulled up to VRTC |
| [14:08:45] |
<GPSFan> |
crazymonkeypants: it's been a couple of months since I did that, I'll have to poke around my build directory to be sure. The first stage I built was byte-for-byte what was in the blob image I pulled from the flash. |
| [14:08:59] |
<crazymonkeypants> |
(busy absorbing the zipit2system site) |
| [14:09:21] |
<GPSFan> |
ie. the assembly lang stuff, once it switched to C, the code diverged quite a bit. |
| [14:09:23] |
<crazymonkeypants> |
Ok; assuming I can get something onto an SD card I should be able to see it in the disassembly |

crazymonkeypants: once you can get code to run from the sd card, you can dd blob, the kernel, and original rootfs of the flash |
| [14:10:55] |
<crazymonkeypants> |
Right; that means I need a linux machine to get stuff onto the card... |
| [14:11:03] |
<crazymonkeypants> |
I'm a bit handicapped there yet |
| [14:12:02] |
<GPSFan> |
it's better if you do, the best solution so far is an sd card with a vfat and an ext2 partition, the vfat has the script and a few binaries that then switchroot you over to the real rootfs on the ext2 partition. |

Oh, no, old message. |
| [14:18:03] |
<crazymonkeypants> |

my interest in jtaging the z2 recently increased due to a success I had using the flyswatter on an NSLU2 that I bricked. somehow the protection bits in the flsah got set to a random pattern, and it's redboot didn't have a unprotect command. the jtag worked like a champ, and I got excited about digging into the z2 again. |

The Z2 is a nifty little device |

awful keyboard notwithstanding |

g1powermac_PB would like to fireup his flyswatter on the zipit as well |

The Mylo2 looked interesting, but I'm guessing Sony locked it down tight |

I got a jpg viewer running on the frame buffer and the display does look nice. I posted some of them in the yahoo pictures area. |

I wonder why SPI mode only for the SD slot |
| [14:23:55] |
<GPSFan> |
g1powermac_PB: so far the flyswatter can read the cpuid and taht's about it, I'm hoping Dave can come up with a place to connect nSRST. |
| [14:24:04] |
<crazymonkeypants> |
The controller seems capable of 4-bit parallel |

| [14:25:58] |
<GPSFan> |
g1powermac_PB: wire |
| [14:26:23] |
<g1powermac_PB> |
k, thought maybe you needed level shifting stuff |
| [14:26:28] |
<GPSFan> |
#30 wires soldered to the board and a .1" 14 pin header. |
| [14:26:32] |
<g1powermac_PB> |
its been awhile since I looked at the stuff |
