[20:27:48] <simc> ping anyone?
[20:28:22] <simc> I just got my zipit
[20:28:36] <simc> but I tried out the z2 shell enviroment
[20:28:53] <simc> but my wpa config wasn't setup right
[20:29:02] <simc> and now it won't reboot
[20:29:09] <simc> any suggestions? :)
[20:29:40] <simc> I tried papercliping it
[20:34:20] *** asantoni_ has joined #zipit
[20:37:04] <Rossimo> simc: try "reboot"
[20:37:18] <simc> well
[20:37:33] <simc> it is now turned off by the looks
[20:37:56] <simc> but won't come back on
[20:38:09] <Rossimo> sure the battery isn't dead?
[20:38:18] <simc> hmm
[20:38:35] <simc> I had the ac adaptor pluged in at the time
[20:38:42] <simc> the battery does seem hot
[20:38:50] <simc> or warm rather
[20:39:21] <Rossimo> you can try unplugging it and pull out the battery
[20:39:26] <simc> ok
[20:41:24] <simc> sorry, i didn't help
[20:41:31] <simc> *didn't help
[20:41:46] <Rossimo> try removing the card, and then powering it on?
[20:42:30] <simc> card is removed
[20:42:38] <simc> won't power on
[20:43:36] <Rossimo> are you sure the reset button isn't stuck?
[20:44:54] <simc> hold on ... LIFE!
[20:44:58] <Rossimo> cool
[20:45:30] <simc> perhaps remving the battery did it. i'n not sure
[20:45:37] <Rossimo> alright
[20:45:44] <simc> glad I didn't brick my new toy
[20:46:09] <Rossimo> using anything on the wiki so far shouldn't brick anything. nothing there flashes the Z2, yet.
[20:46:27] <simc> okay, thats what I thought
[20:48:42] <simc> okay, now it down't start gain
[20:48:55] <simc> hmmm
[20:49:09] <simc> again
[20:49:31] <Rossimo> are you sure the adapter's plugged into the wall? sounds silly, but it doesn't hurt to check
[20:50:27] <simc> haha, yep it is
[20:50:49] *** asantoni has quit IRC
[20:52:27] *** bryank has joined #zipit
[20:52:35] <Rossimo> how long are you holding the power button?
[20:53:18] <simc> 2 sec
[20:54:15] <Rossimo> well, that should work
[20:54:27] <Rossimo> did you try it without the battery?
[20:54:42] <simc> no, guess I should
[20:55:42] <simc> doesn't work
[20:57:40] <simc> thats puzzling
[20:57:43] <simc> hmm
[20:57:45] <Rossimo> yeah
[20:58:04] <Rossimo> though, if it helps, i think the Z2 has a year warranty
[20:58:21] <simc> perhaps the problem is im on 220 V over here, but the power supply has 110-220
[20:58:32] <Rossimo> oh
[20:58:34] <simc> it failed right after using the image
[20:58:53] <simc> ther power supple says it can do 220
[20:59:05] <simc> but perhaps it lies
[20:59:19] <simc> but was using it for quite a while
[20:59:55] <bryank> does it boot the standard zipit software while plugged in? (maybe you tried that already) the battery doesn't seem to charge while running any of the custom stuff.
[21:00:40] <bryank> (but it does seem to run off ac and not *drain* the battery, at least here in 110-land.)
[21:00:44] <simc> well, no nothing seems to boot right now
[21:01:11] <bryank> if you don't even get the zipit logo on the display, then i'd guess something's wrong hardware-wise, but i don't know
[21:01:14] <bryank> ...for sure
[21:01:39] <simc> I got it once but then I pressed the paper clip in
[21:01:57] <simc> thanks for the help thoug
[21:02:03] <bryank> the paperclip thing just powers the device off (at least on the device i have here), it's not a full reset
[21:02:12] <bryank> but the power button does turn it back on for me
[21:02:20] <simc> I'll continue to play with the device after work :)
[21:02:26] <bryank> good luck. :-)
[21:02:28] <simc> thanks
[21:02:40] <simc> i'll let you know how it goes
[21:03:40] <bryank> Rossimo: i also see the hang that you were getting with oe -- it's narrowed down to one of a few revs, and i'm still testing them. i do know that 3280ed... works, and 5210c0... fails.
[21:05:24] <bryank> currently building 662ae9... (from feb. 28), which is getting close to being done.
[21:07:34] <mi_dave> bryank: ping
[21:07:38] <bryank> yeah?
[21:08:50] <mi_dave> just decided to check the irc and saw you were on. how long to go on the build yet?
[21:09:28] <Rossimo> bryank: cool, maybe i'll get a chance to work on it sometime tomorrow. currently i've added the option to pull the rev that works for me into the makefile on the wiki. if there are later ones, go ahead and change it.
[21:09:32] <bryank> not sure; they usually take ~2 hours, and this one started sometime after 7:15. it's chugging along on ncurses (and a bunch of other stuff)
[21:10:37] <bryank> Rossimo: i'd like to figure out exactly what change broke it, and revert that (to keep getting oe updates), but either way would work
[21:11:22] <Rossimo> that's cool, i was thinking how it should work. i just didn't want any newbies to start pulling bad revs until it was fixed
[21:11:30] <bryank> right
[21:12:00] *** simc has quit IRC
[21:12:58] <mi_dave> bryank: did you get my e-mail?
[21:13:12] <bryank> not yet, let me check.
[21:14:23] <bryank> ok -- the sd card that i have currently has the testing images on it, but i can revert that to the working image and bring it in tomorrow.
[21:16:37] <mi_dave> if you bring in the micro and mini cards, can we xfer a working image from the micro to the mini?
[21:18:07] <bryank> using the vlan router, yeah; the livecd doesn't have the option turned on to scan all luns, so the multi-card readers won't work on it. the micro adapter would work, but we'd still have to transfer it to the mini.
[21:19:37] <bryank> although you did download ubuntu, right? that would probably be easier if you still have it.
[21:21:10] <mi_dave> you mean the ubuntu cd?
[21:21:14] <bryank> yeah
[21:21:26] <bryank> as a livecd on some random machine
[21:27:42] <bryank> whee, only 500 tasks to go! (must have started a lot later than i thought; dang)
[21:32:21] <mi_dave> how many revs between the one you are building and the one you know works and the one that you know doesn't?
[21:33:41] <bryank> 2 between what i'm building and what i know works; not sure how many between this and what i know doesn't work.
[21:34:29] <bryank> this rev is a merge of a bunch of changes, though, so if it fails, the change will be along an entirely separate branch
[21:35:37] <bryank> wow, those 500 tasks went fast (now to test it)
[21:42:43] <bryank> ... and, it hangs. ok, i bet the issue is one of the gcc pieces of that merge. i bet 630bb2... fails and 4e74a69... works, but of course i'll have to test them
[21:43:47] <mi_dave> 2 hours later...
[21:45:00] <bryank> aka tomorrow. at least i can build it overnight.
[21:45:34] <mi_dave> yeah
