[09:59:43] <Magon> hi all

[10:12:36] *** Magon has joined #zipit
[10:13:57] *** GPSFan has joined #zipit
[10:44:36] <Magon> is here anyone who understands how OE works?
[11:16:44] <GPSFan> Magon: Crofton is your best resource for OE stuff.
[11:16:54] <Magon> GPSFan: i know that one of you..but couldnt remember who :-)
[11:17:17] <Magon> I am going to try review kernel patch for Z2 and try to commit it to handhelds.org kernel tree
[11:17:26] <GPSFan> Magon: not I. I've tried several times to make OE work on a project and have no success. However many folks have made lots of projects work, so I think it can be done and is probably one of the more flexible environments.
[11:17:37] <Magon> I am close to hate OE..but there is probably nothing better
[11:17:38] <Magon> it is just the smallest evil
[11:18:00] <Magon> it is awfully big and developing by using its tool chain is a bit pain
[11:18:25] <GPSFan> Magon: I have looked at some of Aeronix's patches and they are quirte poor form a coding style viewpoint. Most of the kernel patch is adding the PXA specific code that Aeronix/zipitwireless had nothing to do with.
[11:18:42] <Magon> Aeronix patches?
[11:19:20] <GPSFan> yeah, Aeronix did the original zipit (z1) and spun off zipitwireless for the Z2 stuff. They remain the designers and source of the Z2 specific code (hardware related). Look through the kernel patch and you will find that they wqrote the pxa audia and gpio drivers.
[11:19:27] * GPSFan can't type today...
[11:19:43] <Magon> PXA audio in the patche or in some general tree?
[11:19:58] <GPSFan> just search for Aeronix in the kernel patch.
[11:29:28] <Magon> ok
[11:29:36] <Magon> i thougth PXA had all drivers already
[11:29:46] <GPSFan> thye also have patches in the blob (bootloader). the patchsets for busybox and wpa_supplicant art trivial.
[11:30:00] <Magon> yes..i have seen all the patches few minutes ago
[11:31:57] <Magon> the blob patch is awful
[11:31:59] <GPSFan> the gpio driver would be needed by any non-reference PXA design since it is the designers option as to what the GPIO's do.
[11:32:04] <GPSFan> yeah the blob patch doesn't apply cleanly to the source.
[11:32:06] <GPSFan> as well
[11:32:44] <Magon> i have been using PXA and i had some GPIO drivers..
[11:32:50] <GPSFan> the blob patch tries to add the code that the blob cvs has since the last release 2.0.5pre2. It also adds some Aeronix specific code. it is a mess. I've been trying to work on it to figure out what's blob and what's Aeronix.
[11:33:04] <GPSFan> I haven't really looked at the kernel patch carefully as yet. I just was happy it applied cleanly to the source.
[11:33:19] <Magon> i need to review all kernel patch in order to get it merged somewhere
[11:33:39] <GPSFan> Magon: you might check on lak ml to see how close the non-areonix stuff is to what they have.
[11:43:15] <Magon> lak ?
[11:43:39] <GPSFan> Linux-arm-kernel http://www.arm.linux.org.uk/mailinglists/faq.php
[11:49:13] <Magon> the patches are agains vanilla..so i thougth that ARM is mostly in vanilla
[12:01:45] * GPSFan hasn't looked at the kernel patch closely enough to know what's what. Yet.
[12:19:00] <Magon> GPSFan: do you know the jungle of linux kernels?
[12:19:05] <Magon> seems like arm kernel is actually vanilla one
[12:44:37] <GPSFan> Magon: I've ventured into that jungle a few times, and have escaped without severe harm. But, I'm by no means a qualified native guide.
[12:48:48] <Magon> ok
[12:48:56] <Magon> i have been developing kernel for Palm T3 a year or so back but i have been given kernel tree..now i need to find one :-)
[12:59:30] <Magon> found out amaizing thing..most of gadgets trees have mergets its code to upstream...meaning i have to make patches just agains upstream vanilla linux
