General (#3) - Z2 Shell (#24) - Message List
I'd like to be able to run a shell on the Z2.
Under "installation" on the wiki, it says "Extract everything contained in the archive to the root directory of your SD card."
I don't quite see how to do this - you don't get scp or any kind of file transfer that I can see when the Z2 boots up out of the box. Are you supposed to use some kind of device to allow your PC to mount the SD as a drive ?
This site seems rather sparse - is there another site I should read first to get this kind of info ?

tlhall,
You purchase a MiniSD card (which typically comes with an SD card adapter). On your PC, you extract the files in that archive to that SD. Then, you take the MiniSD and put it into your Z2 and boot it. At that point, your Z2 will come up into the shell (and you can type via the Z2 keyboard and see results on the Z2 screen).

Thanks ! Sounds easy enough. I got the files on the SD now. I'm hoping my Zipit arrives by Saturday so I can try it. I'll let you know how it goes !

Nice !
I didn't even have to re-format the SD; just kept a FAT filesystem on it and it worked fine.
It took me a while to get the right SD card.
My wireless network is setup with WEP, but that didn't take too long to figure out by web-searching 'wpa_supplicant' and WEP.
Now I can ssh (dbclient) to anywhere with this nice little (almost) pocket-sized device.
Thanks for setting this up for us !

When I tried to use scp, I got the error "/usr/bin/dbclient not found". I think scp is supposed to be a link to /mnt/sd0/bin/dbclient instead of to /usr/bin/dbclient, which was pretty easy to fix. Maybe this could be fixed if there's a V3.
